• Origins and characteristics of hydrocarbons. Alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, cycloalkanes. Benzene and aromatic compounds. Carbon hybridization
• Organic compounds: structure and nomenclature. Isomerism, relationship between structure and properties. Alcohols, aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids. Amines and amino acids
• Hints on macromolecules: carbohydrates, lipids and proteins (the peptide bond), nucleic acids
