Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (07/10/2025 - 31/01/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

a) To foster critical thinking and scientific discussion, through the analysis of key experiments that have shaped the fields of biology and genetics. b) To provide an integrated and non-dogmatic view of living organisms, highlighting the shared morphological and functional features — from viruses to humans — as well as their interactions and complementarities. c) To introduce the main techniques in biology and genetics currently used in clinical practice and molecular diagnostics for orthopedic science

Course Prerequisites

As per the university's academic regulations

Teaching Methods

Teaching Methods: Compulsory lectures integrated with interactive moments, including in-class discussions on the topics covered. Learning Materials: Didactic materials, including lecture slides, will be provided by Dr. Mandatori.

Assessment Methods

Oral Exam The outcome of the exam is assessed based on the achievement of the specific learning objectives. At the end of the exam, a grade is assigned, summarized using the following scale out of thirty: A) Excellent knowledge and understanding of the topics, ability to reason and logically integrate acquired knowledge, and its application in a clinical context. Grade: 30/30. If the student also demonstrates autonomy of judgment and excellent communication skills, honors will be awarded. B) Good knowledge and understanding of the topics, with minor inaccuracies, and good ability to logically integrate, exercise judgment, and apply knowledge to clinical practice. Grade: 27–29/30. C) Adequate knowledge and understanding of the topics, though with some gaps in the ability to integrate and apply knowledge. Grade: 24–26/30. D) Sufficient knowledge and understanding of the topics, although some gaps are present, reflected in a limited ability to integrate and apply concepts. Grade: 21–23/30. E) Knowledge and understanding of the topics with evident gaps. Minimal integrative and applicative abilities of the concepts learned. Grade: 18–20/30. F) Knowledge and understanding of the topics with significant and evident gaps, accompanied by poor integrative and applicative abilities. Grade: Failed.
