Course Objectives

The course contributes to the achievement of the educational objectives of the Degree Course as it aims to be a stimulus and guide for advanced learning and the study of memory functions and the impact that these have in the field of legal testimony, as well as good practices that guide research in the sector.
Knowledge and understanding:
The course will provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the cognitive and affective mechanisms underlying memory and testimony, with particular attention to the theoretical models of reference and the variables that influence the accuracy and reliability of memories. The ethical and methodological implications in the collection of testimonies in the forensic field will also be addressed.
Applied knowledge and understanding:
Students will be able to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired to critically evaluate and critically identify the factors that influence memory in testimony provided in judicial contexts.
Autonomy of judgment:
The course will promote the development of critical and independent thinking, allowing students to independently analyze data relating to memory and testimony, evaluating their quality and reliability. Students will be encouraged to formulate scientifically based judgments on witness statements.
Communication skills:
Students will acquire skills that will allow them to communicate clearly and effectively the results obtained from psychological evaluations of the witness, using technical language appropriate to the legal context. They will be able to dialogue with professionals from other multidisciplinary fields (e.g. judges, lawyers, psychiatrists, etc.).

Teaching Methods

The course consists of 54 hours of classroom teaching, divided into 2 and 3 hour lessons based on the academic calendar.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of a written test aimed at verifying the learning, conceptual mastery, language skills, interpretation and analysis of the memory functions of the witness subject.
The test includes 30 multiple choice questions (4 answer options of which only one is correct). The exam lasts 30 minutes.
The student can choose to complete the exam with an oral integration to be agreed with the teacher.
The test will be evaluated with a score between 0 and 30 (with possible honors). A grade from 18 to 23 indicates sufficient learning, a grade from 23 to 28 indicates good learning, a grade from 28 to 30 indicates excellent learning, a grade "with honors" indicates particular skills in analysis and critical reasoning of the course topics.
