Course Objectives


Upon completion of the module, students will be able to:

Describe the chemical and functional properties of cosmetic ingredients
Understand the relationship between structure, function, and safety
Evaluate product stability and effectiveness
Become familiar with formulation strategies and regulatory criteria
Recognize innovative substances and their cosmetic applications

Teaching Methods


The course is delivered in blended mode, with 50% in-person and 50% online activities, combining TEL-DE (content delivery) and TEL-DI (interactive learning).
Students will engage in case study analysis, individual and group work, including e-tivities, aimed at applying theoretical knowledge and developing operational and professional skills

Assessment Methods


Student assessment includes:

Final exam: oral examination, to be taken during one of the scheduled exam sessions.

The final grade will be assigned according to the following scale:

18–22/30: basic knowledge with some gaps
23–25/30: fair understanding with clear exposition
26–28/30: good mastery of the content
29–30/30: excellent knowledge with ability to connect and contextualize topics
30 cum laude: all questions answered correctly

This module explores the chemical characteristics of the main cosmetic ingredients, with a focus on molecular categories, functional roles, and evaluation of safety, efficacy, and stability of formulations. Along with conventional substances, it introduces advanced technologies (e.g., nanomaterials) and modern assessment tools.
