Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course wants to give mathematical tools for the applications in Economics, Statistics and Finance.

EXPECTED LEARNING RESULTS

With respect to the general objectives that the Study Program aims to achieve, the teaching wants to give the following
skills and knowledge:

- to define vectors and matrices with the corresponding operations
- to study analytically the functions of a real variable
- to identify the integral of a function.

With respect to applied skills and knowledge, the course wants:

- to induce to work algebraically with vectors and matrices
- to represent graphically an analytically defined function
- to calculate the area below the graph of a function.

With respect to communication skills, the course wants:

- to use the mathematical language and to develops a multi-disciplinary communication skills.

Course Prerequisites

Knowledge of basic mathematics, common to each kind of high school, is recommended: algebraic symbolic calculus, 1st and 2nd order equations and inequations, radicals, equation of the straight line.

Teaching Methods

The teaching includes 64 hours of lessons divided into 3 weekly lessons of 2 hours. The course will be carried out through frontal lectures and exercises.
Attendance is strongly recommended.

Assessment Methods

The total exam consists of a 90-minute written test and an oral exam to verify the candidate's ability to mathematical formalization, to understand notions and to deduce results. The written test consists of exercises regarding the main parts of the program. To access the oral exam it is necessary to reach a score of at least 15/30. The final evaluation, expressed in thirtieths, will take into account both proofs (50% of the written test and 50% of the oral exam).
The proofs will be based on the reference books, without differences between attending and not attending students.
