Synthesis, physicochemical characterization and analysis of drug delivery systems in nanotechnology and nanomedicine. Students will learn fundamentals for the synthesis, physicochemical characterization and biological tests of drug delivery systems and medical devices. The course aims at proposing a comprehensive view of basal procedures and assays used for the biological evaluation of newly synthetized compounds, nanomaterials and drug delivery.

Polymeric drug delivery systems (Abraxane). Nanochannel biomedical devices (nDS). Cell organization and communication. In vitro cell culture models: primary cell cultures, normal and cancer cell lines. In vitro metabolic activity and cytotoxicity assays. Study of the intracellular trafficking in response to different pharmaceutical systems by means of flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy.
