Course Objectives

The course is based on the study of unconventional energy sources and its applications to the preparation of organic compounds in the light of the principles of green chemistry.

Course Prerequisites

Necessary knowledge for the learning of Advanced Organic Chemistry:
Electronic configuration and atom structure - ionic and covalent bonds - molecular structures - atomic orbitals and resonance structures – knowledge of the functional groups.

Teaching Methods

Lessons in classroom for a total of 21 hours take place 3/4 hours a week. The arguments are explained by using PowerPoint slides. Excitations in the computer room is included in the exercitation hours.

Assessment Methods

The exam is oral, the students have to demonstrate the achievement of the fundamental objectives of the course giving a short speech on a topic chosen from literature.

Non-conventional energy sources. Use of microwaves in the research laboratories and at the industrial level. Characteristics of microwave heating. Solvents in microwave-assisted organic synthesis. Microwave-assisted reactions in solution and solvent free. Characteristics of some microwave instrumentation.
