Course Objectives

Providing knowledge and tools needed by those who want to approach the work of bibliographic management and cataloguing of historical collections, encouraging the development of specific professionalising skills especially in the field of early printed material. The cataloguing of early printed and modern material will be the focus of a dedicated workshop in the second year.

Some classes will have a hands-on approach and may be held in historical libraries for a ‘book in hand’ study of the course content; external speakers may be invited for specific classes and seminars. Trips to historical libraries will be scheduled for the last part of the course.

Assessment Methods

An oral exam will ascertain knowledge and understanding of the topics presented in the classes and covered by the textbooks indicated for preparation. The test is intended to verify the knowledge and critical ability to elaborate the theoretical-practical contents of the discipline. The final assessment will also take into consideration the clarity and coherence of the exposition and the level of mastery in the use of technical language.

Exams take place in the professor’s room, first floor, third aisle, in DiLASS building.
