Course Objectives

1) knowledge and understanding of the various methods, forms and techniques peculiar to historical research;2) critical skills acquired (autonomy of judgement in relation to the problems dealt with);3) communication skills (correct use of terminology and clarity of exposition).

Teaching Methods

The workshop will be structured in 24 hours of frontal teaching, divided into 3 hours of lessons per week (for a total of 8 seminars), according to the academic calendar.Each lecture will be accompanied by the active participation of the students.

Assessment Methods

Each student will be asked to write a short thesis, focusing on one of the case studies discussed in class. In the paper, reference should be made to both primary and secondary sources.
The topic of the paper should be agreed in advance with the professor.

The Middle Ages is a chronological scan handy to introduce the relationship between sources and questions to develop a historical method and historiography continuously updated by the results already achieved. After a brief theoretical introduction, the course will be based on concrete examples and documents from the Italian and European Middle Ages both in their material and digital dimension.
