Course Objectives


The course aims to provide students with the basic linguistic and metalinguistic skills required for the academic study of German. By the end of the course, students will have:

knowledge of the fundamental structures of the German language
ability to analyze linguistic elements from a phonetic, morphological and syntactic perspective
awareness of linguistic variation and structural differences between German and Italian


Course Prerequisites


No specific prerequisites. Prior exposure to German is useful but not required.

Lectures
Practical exercises
Guided linguistic analysis and comparison between German and Italian
Use of multimedia materials and educational platforms


Assessment Methods


Written and oral exam (covering both Prof. Basili’s part and the language practice course held by Prof. Simone), including theoretical questions and analysis of linguistic structures.

Contents


This course introduces students to the study of the German language and its phonological, morphological and syntactic structure. Starting from basic concepts in general linguistics, the course will analyze the main features of contemporary German, with practical examples and constant comparison with Italian. Topics include linguistic variation (diatopic, diastratic, diamesic) and basic notions of phonetics and phonology. The course includes practical exercises in comprehension and linguistic production.
