Course Objectives


At the end of the course, students will have acquired:
- the reading and oral comprehension skills, as well as the writing and speaking skills of A2 level
- a metalinguistic knowledge of the main grammatical features of A2-level Spanish
- basic notions of Spanish phonetics and phonology;
- basic notions of linguistics applied to communication.

None.

Teaching Methods


The course consists of: (a) classes held by the instructor(s); (b) practical sessions held by the lector(s).
The classes offered by the instructor(s) are both lectures (aimed at providing the necessary theoretical background) and seminars (with students' active participation).
The practical sessions with the lector(s) are highly interactive and are necessary to acquire the language skills needed to successfully complete the final exam.
For these reasons, attendance of both the instructors' and lectors' classes is strongly recommended.

Assessment Methods


EXAM
Final assessment consists of a written and an oral exam, which cover the syallbus of both the main course and the lectors’ sessions.
Written and oral exams can be sat in different sessions (summer, fall, winter). Students access the oral exam only after passing the written exam. Both parts will need to be passed before the winter session (January/February 2027) in order to officially register the final result. The written exam is valid until the winter session (January/February 2027).

WRITTEN EXAM
The written exam comprises:
- A2 grammar and vocabulary test;
- Level A2 reading comprehension and writing exercises (practiced in the lectors’ sessions);
- Open and closed questions on the theory module (phonetics and phonology, language functions)

ORAL EXAM
The oral exam is only accessed after successful completion of the written exam.
The oral exam will aim to verify, through a conversation between the course convenors, the lector(s), and the student:
-the acquisition of oral skills at level A2;
- the student's comprehension and ability to discuss the content of the non-fiction books listed in the Readings list.

For the oral exam, students are required to read 2 of the following books:
- Caperucita en Manhattan (Carmen M. Gaite)
- Historia de una gaviota y del gato que le enseñó a volar (Luis Sepúlveda)
- Arrugas (Paco Roca)
- Manolito Gafotas (Elvira Lindo)
- El Príncipe destronado (Miguel Delibes)

REFERENCE GRAMMAR for independent learning
Gramática básica del estudiante de español (ed. Difusión) (any edition; only contents related to levels A1 and A2)
To achieve level A2, in addition to the materials provided by the instructor on the TEAMS channel during the lessons, students should follow all the indications (materials, texts, bibliography, etc.) provided by the Language Expert Collaborators (CEL, lectors) of the University’s Language Center (cla.unich.it) for level A2.**********

Contents


The course focuses on:
- the development of the language skills (listening / reading comprehension, speaking, writing) corresponding to level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
- the acquisition of metalinguistic awareness, in a contrastive perspective with Italian, on the main grammatical topics of level A2;
- the acquisition of basic notions of Spanish phonetics and phonology;
- the acquisition of basic notions of linguistics applied to communication.

SYLLABUS VALIDITY
The syllabus is valid for the whole 2025/2026 academic year (until the exam session of January/February 2027). For the final grade to be officially registered, students must have successfully completed all the parts of the exam by the last session of the 2025-2026 academic year.
