Course Objectives

The teaching of General Nursing contributes to the realisation of the educational objective of the Degree Course in Nursing (Art. 3 of the Regulations ‘knowledge of the general bioethical, deontological, juridical and medico-legal principles necessary for the performance of the professional activity, identification of the nursing care needs of the person and the community and formulation of the relative care paths, prevention of illnesses, care of the sick and disabled in the various ages and health education, planning, management and evaluation of the individual and collective nursing care interventions’) providing the student with both the scientific basis and the normative and humanistic knowledge necessary for the development of the peculiar competences characterising the nursing discipline. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES: Knowledge and understanding: At the end of the course the student will be able to know and understand, at various levels of complexity, the traditional and modern role of the nursing profession, the fundamental deontological duties of the nurse, the basic regulatory, cultural and professional principles that guide the process, conceptuality, nursing action towards the assisted person and the community. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: The student will be able to apply the knowledge derived from the course, integrated with the knowledge derived from the other subjects covered in the integrated course (Principles of Nursing Care, Clinical Nursing and Pedagogy) to the understanding of the disciplinary contents characterising the Professional Profile of the Nurse within a multidisciplinary context, in order to be able to rationally deal with the nursing care in the field of prevention, care and rehabilitation. Autonomy of judgement (Making judgements): the student will be able to collect and interpret data in order to make judgements autonomously in the context of general (basic) care provision, which he/she will implement in subsequent courses. Communication skills: the student will be able to communicate information to interlocutors. Learning skills: the student, through the methodological criterion that the study of General Nursing provides, will be able to develop the skills necessary to undertake subsequent studies with a high degree of autonomy.


Course Prerequisites

In order to be eligible for the examination, the student must have attended 70% of the lectures of the Integrated Course in Applied Nursing Science in Health and Social Education I.


Teaching Methods

The module, attendance of which is compulsory, includes interactive face-to-face lectures with the aid of supporting computer-based teaching material in Power Point format. The lecturer will adopt a teaching style based on the presentation of problems prefiguring professional life situations, so as to stimulate students' interest in the course topics.

Assessment Methods

The learning assessment is based on an oral test. The assessment is in thirtieths; the examination is passed if the mark is equal to or higher than eighteen thirtieths (18/30). In determining the order in which students are to be examined, special account will be taken of the specific needs of working students. Failure marks are not accompanied by a mark. The publicity of the examination papers is ensured. The following indicators and descriptors will be taken into account for the assessment of the oral interview: INDICATORS: Relevance and correctness DESCRIPTORS: Complete: 30, Thorough: 29 - 27, Fair with some gaps 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Scarcely sufficient with obvious shortcomings: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: breadth and coherence DESCRIPTORS: Rigorous and documented showing ability to use acquired knowledge and to link it in the argument: 30, Precise and detailed: 29 - 27, Adequate: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Barely sufficient: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: Correctness of expression, ownership of scientific language, communication skills DESCRIPTORS: Refined and original: 30, Clear, fluent and correct: 29 -27, Fair: 26 - 24, Sufficient: 23 - 21, Not fully adequate: 20 -18. A mark of no less than 18/30 is required to pass the examination. To obtain a mark of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all the topics covered in the course, being able to link them in a logical and coherent manner.
