Course Objectives


The Internship, in compliance with the provisions of the Teaching Regulations in Article No. 3 "Specific training objectives and expected skills", aims to develop technical-operational, relational and clinical reasoning skills and to adopt a professional conduct that is ethically and deontologically correct.


EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
During the first-year internship, under the supervision of a clinical tutor, the student:
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
- Assesses their expectations and initiates initial socialization with the nursing role;
- Identifies behavioral measures to prevent occupational risks for their own and others' safety;
- Identifies appropriate methods and tools for assessing the problems/needs of patients admitted in low/medium complexity medical/surgical settings;
- Identifies basic nursing care issues and the care priorities of admitted patients;
- Understands the professional relationship with patients and their families or caregivers.


ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
- Apply the principles necessary to protect their own and others' safety (staff and patients);
- Adopt occupational risk prevention strategies;
- Ensure nursing care, based on the best available evidence, respecting safety, dignity, advocacy, and confidentiality, for patients cared for at different stages of life.
- Conduct first-level nursing assessments for compromised patterns, applying various methods such as observation, interviews, physical examinations, and consultation of direct and indirect sources;
- Record vital signs and anthropometric measurements and recognize normal/altered ranges;
- Use quantitative and qualitative measurement tools to detect and compare care phenomena and/or their risk of development (risk assessment scales and care indices);
- Identify actual or potential nursing care problems for the patient;
- Implement preventative and curative/treatment measures for pressure ulcers;
- Implements fall prevention interventions;
- Manages urinary and fecal elimination in non-self-sufficient patients.
- Identifies and prevents dehydration problems;
- Manages mobilization and transfers of non-self-sufficient patients;
- Under the supervision of the clinical tutor, administers medications by oral, sublingual, inhalation, intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular routes, applying safety principles and recognizing desired therapeutic effects and adverse reactions;
- Provides the patient and/or caregiver with information to promote health maintenance and/or recovery;
- Documents the nursing care planned, delivered, and evaluated under the supervision of the clinical tutor.


JUDGMENT MAKING
- Selects occupational risk prevention strategies to ensure their own safety and that of others;
- Selects appropriate times and spaces for conducting nursing assessments;
- Identifies the care priorities of patients admitted to low- to medium-complexity medical/surgical settings;
- Assumes responsibility for their own actions and the care outcomes achieved;
- Seeks ongoing dialogue with the clinical tutor in new and/or more complex situations;
- Reports to the tutor errors or near-errors that may impact the patient's health.
- Demonstrates behavior consistent with the guidelines set forth in the Teaching Regulations and the rules of professional ethics and ethics.


COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- Activates and manages the supportive relationship with the client, their family, and significant others.
- Ensures effective communication through the use of verbal and nonverbal cues, facilitating understanding and expression of emotions.
- Supports the client in self-managing caregiving issues of medium to low complexity.
- Interacts with other professionals involved in the care process, respecting their areas of responsibility and expertise.


LEARNING SKILLS
- Critically reflects on their learning expectations with respect to clinical practice models and debriefings with the tutor;
- Critically reflects on the emotional impact of the first internship experience, the difficulties encountered, the expected and unexpected aspects, and the strategies implemented or implementable and their effectiveness;
- Discusses the experience of a supervised internship with second- and third-year students;
- Critically reflects on the healthcare/clinical situations experienced during the internship;
- Seeks supervision and feedback from the clinical tutor, teaching assistant, or senior student in clinical learning contexts;
- Reflects on the learning process and identifies their own needs for acquiring the expected skills;
- Actively contributes to their own learning by offering complementary learning experiences and activities;
- Develops independent study skills in analyzing healthcare cases.

Course Prerequisites


Students who have obtained the qualification required pursuant to Legislative Decree no. 81 of 2008 will be admitted to the internship.

Teaching Methods


Clinical internship in the Units/Services provided for in the training plan, under the supervision of the clinical tutor

Assessment Methods


Students who have completed 100% of the internship hours required in the first year of the course and have received positive evaluations in the Units/Services they attended are admitted to the internship exam, subject to the prerequisites set out in the Course Regulations.
The assessment of learning is based on the discussion of a clinical case, with the aid of a mannequin to simulate relevant procedures. The evaluation is out of 30; the exam is passed if the score is equal to or greater than eighteen thirtieths (18/30). When determining the order in which students are examined, particular consideration will be given to the specific needs of working students. A failing grade is not accompanied by a grade. The following indicators and descriptors will be used for the evaluation:


NDICATORS: relevance and correctness DESCRIPTORS: Complete: 30, In-depth: 29 - 27, Fair although with some gaps: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Just sufficient with evident deficiencies: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: breadth and coherence DESCRIPTORS: Rigorous and documented, highlighting the ability to use the knowledge acquired and connect it in the argumentation: 30, Precise and detailed: 29 - 27, Adequate: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Just sufficient: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: Expressive correctness, command of scientific language, communication ability DESCRIPTORS: Refined and original: 30, Clear, fluent and correct: 29 - 27, Fair: 26 - 24, Sufficient: 23 - 21, Not fully suitable: 20 -18.


To achieve a score of 30/30 with honors, the student must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all aspects related to the case, being able to connect them in a logical and coherent way.
