Course Objectives

The professionalizing laboratory helps to acquire, in a protected and equipped environment, some technical skills/competences.
The objective is to allow the student to implement the following principles:
Knowing-in-Action (knowing while practicing)
Stop-and-Think Reflect-in Action
Specific training objectives and expected skills:
Apply the knowledge acquired relating to basic technical, gestural, relational and educational skills relating to Gordon's Functional Models of health.
Develop methodological skills relating to care planning.
Promotes the execution of the fundamental techniques/procedures of nursing action.
Promote active learning through operational activities with simulation.
Ensure students learn objective evaluation processes through direct observation for each planned training setting.
Guarantee processes and methods of individual self-assessment of students through debriefings, guided by laboratory tutors.
Prepare the student not only for the internship but also for the evaluation.
Acquire the following skills:
Clinics, that is, identifying and deciding on patient problems;
Psychomotor (procedural), i.e. carrying out procedures safely for the patient and the operator;
Relational, i.e. communicating effectively through verbal and non-verbal strategies to help the patient understand/resolve.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND
Identify preventive behavioral measures for the risk of biomechanical overload during manual handling of loads in healthcare settings
Identify healthcare aids for the manual handling of loads based on the patient's clinical conditions and posturing/transfer assistance activities.
Identify preventive interventions for infection control related to care processes.
Identify the standard precautions to be adopted to reduce infections related to healthcare processes in healthcare settings (hand hygiene, PPE).
Identify methods of safe disposal of biologically hazardous waste (sharp, pungent, contaminated, infected)
Identify a model for conducting the assessment for taking care of the patient

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING Ascertain the clinical conditions of the patient to apply the appropriate procedures according to the degree of collaboration and the presence of neuromotor/physical disorders/pathologies.
Safely apply postures for the patient, respecting the principles of ergonomics for the operator and using major and minor aids Implement posture changes (bed posture, side rotation maneuvers and grip points, bed-wheelchair transition)
Apply standard/additional precautions, according to the infectious risk (airborne transmission routes, contact, biological fluids) by carrying out; to. hand hygiene respecting the methods and times foreseen by the recommendations, b dressing with PPE in the correct sequence to avoid contamination
Dispose of special biohazardous waste according to the safety procedure, in the appropriate containers
Apply systematic assessment and surveillance of patients' current psychological, physical, social, and spiritual problems and risks
Collect and organize objective and subjective data Develop diagnostic hypotheses based on the data collected Identify priority problems and related interventions consistent with the patient's clinical situation.
Simulate the administration of oxygen using the relevant devices.

INDEPENDENCE OF JUDGMENT Develop decision-making skills in managing movement according to disabilities
Choose the appropriate aids and postures to ensure movement and prevent a) for the patient, falls, accidental injuries, compression injuries b) for the operator, falls and spinal injuries.
Develop decision-making skills in choosing individual protection measures according to the infectious risk in order to prevent infections and exposure to biological risk of operators.
Develop skills in choosing significant data to support the patient's real or risk problems and designing the care plan

ABILITY TO LEARN
Acquire critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills by applying the nursing care process to create personalized care plans referring to people assisted during the apprenticeship
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Simulate communication with the patient through simple and sequential orders to coordinate movement in postural passages and convey safety.
Apply effective communication methods (Verbal: shared verbal codes, choice of words, silences; Non-verbal: posture, proximity, gaze, touch; Para-verbal: tone of voice, facial expressions.
Identify barriers to listening
Develop the ability to adapt professional communication methods in care contexts based on the person's needs, ensuring understanding, reformulation and assertive message

Course Prerequisites

For more effective participation in learning, it is important that the student has acquired theoretical knowledge in the clinical field (C.I. of Nursing Sciences Applied to Health and Social Education I)

Teaching Methods

The laboratory is carried out on a full-time basis: the aim is to experiment in a guided and protected way with gestural, relational and cognitive skills to facilitate the student's insertion into the operational clinical contexts of the internship.
The teaching methodology is carried out with small groups of students (approximately 10). Based on the theoretical contents learned, the student practices to acquire a technical-manual skill.
The activity is conducted by an expert nurse by demonstrating it and subsequently carrying it out by the student on mannequins or even through exercises between the students themselves.
In support, audiovisual material and aids can be viewed.
A final eligibility is expected. The theoretical contents of the activity are part of the topics evaluated during the clinical nursing and internship exams.

Assessment Methods

Suitability acquired through 100% attendance of laboratory activities.

Contents

Understand and deepen your knowledge to increase the level of skills before tackling the clinic;
Identify the needs of nursing assistance for people with problems related to the topics addressed during the lectures;
Integrate knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide safe, effective and evidence-based nursing care;
Apply and manage the diagnostic and therapeutic paths addressed in class, with the aid of simulations, videos and films, and then analyze them critically;
Provide communicative/relational, methodological/instrumental skills to identify the physical, psychological and social needs of the person at different ages of life, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical ones.
Develop nursing conceptuality with the principles of the profession in the care situations envisaged by the training project, in relation to the responsibilities required for the 1st year of the course
