Syllabus

Course Objectives

The aim of the course is to allow the student to acquire the fundamental knowledge related to the main theoretical and applicative aspects of Bioengineering. In particular: as a basic objective, it must include the basic notions concerning measurement, the nature of a biomedical signal, the properties of a signal, the acquisition and analysis of biomedical signals, the differences between analog and digital signal; as an advanced goal, it will have to understand the problems of A/D conversion and the main properties of the signal in the time and frequency domain. The student, after understanding the principles, will be able to apply them on examples and understand the effect. The student will be able to understand what happens in reality with independent judgment.

Course Prerequisites

The knowledge of mathematics in all high school programs is recommended.

Teaching Methods

The course includes 20 hours of frontal teaching, divided into lessons of 2 hours depending on the academic calendar. The frontal teaching consists of theoretical lessons and practical application. During the lessons the main topics of the teaching are explained with examples on the blackboard or on a computer.

Assessment Methods

The verification of student’s competency consists of a written test with multiple choice answer options related to the entire program with a possible subsequent oral integration at teacher’s discretion. The total points (30) will be divided according to the questions presented in the examination. The total score is given by the sum of correct scores to the individual questions. The duration of the written test is about 60 minutes.

Texts

Handouts provided by the teacher.
