Course Objectives

The teaching of General Sociology, along with the professional profile of the Degree Course in Dietetics, aims to present to the Students a thematic articulation pointed to the acquisition of general scientific knowledge in the planning of health and social policies and in the multidisciplinary quali-quantitative evaluation of interventions and services in the health and social field, such as to provide the student with disciplinary knowledge about the models, theories and scientific instruments of social research and the health principles of individuals, communities and the population.

Expected learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding - The student will achieve a general and professional knowledge of the sociology and methodology of social research and culture of well-being, applying this knowledge in the theoretical-operational dimension of health-disease and in the implementation of interventions and services in the field social and health

Making judgments - On the topics of the course, the student will have to acquire adequate communication methods and competences for the understanding and transmission of social knowledge related to sociology and social research methods, with an ability to analyze and interpret the models, methods and techniques of research. , planning and evaluation of social, health and welfare interventions and policies.

Communication skills - The communication skills will be acquired by the student using a terminology and a disciplinary and scientific language to represent the skills and knowledge learned during the lessons, in particular in the context of the social research methodology and the planning and evaluation of the relationship health-disease.

Learning skills - The program aims to provide the student with a capacity for critical analysis evolved with respect to the knowledge already acquired, also in a scientific sense for self-reflective learning, declining all possible disciplinary aspects, with a view to a complete ability to interacting and sharing the processes of constructing meanings and developing metacognitive skills.

Course Prerequisites

The course will also allow students who do not have specific knowledge related to the discipline, to achieve the indicated training objectives. No prerequisites are foreseen.

Teaching Methods

Lectures, seminars with the participation of experts and professionals, eventual use of slides and other scientific and bibliographic materials made available by the teacher during the lessons. Students may develop, in the course of lessons and for the purposes of both ongoing and final evaluation, a descriptive report on a subject in line with the teaching of Economic and Social Policy, previously agreed with the Professor.

Assessment Methods

Verification: Oral exam, carried out through questions concerning the didactic program performed by the Teacher and the topics of the texts foreseen and dealt with during the lectures.
Evaluation: votes expressed in thirtieths.
The teacher reserves the right to use the written test as appropriate, when appropriate or necessary. This written test does not replace the final oral exam, but is a part of it, functional to the overall management aspects of the exam. The results of the written test, expressed in thirtieths, will average with those in thirtieths achieved by the student in the final oral exam.

Contents

During the course will be examined, from a theoretical and methodological perspective, applicative topics of sociological research, particularly about the health and disease issues, both from a historical-evolutionary perspective and from that of models and interventions in the field of welfare and people's protection.

At the start of the course, attending students will receive the reference bibliography, including essays, contributions in volumes, documents available on institutional sites and research centers.
The Teacher may provide, upon explicit request from the Students or for the necessity of achieving the educational and teaching objectives, any optional additional activities of reception, tutoring, laboratory or group, for the purpose of meeting the training objectives indicated in this program.
