Course Objectives

The course will introduce students to the advanced knowledge about basic cognitive resources, by providing the critical, historical and methodological foundations needed to frame psychology as a scientific discipline.
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- understand the features of the different theoretical approaches in psychology.
- elaborate and integrate knowledge into the workings of the mind and behavior.
- interpret experimental protocols used for the study of mind and behavior.
- communicate in a clear and unambiguous way their knowledge of human behavior
- deepen topics of interest in their own way.

Teaching Methods

Teaching consists of 64 hours of face-to-face teaching, divided into 2-hour and 3-hour lectures.
The lectures are supported by slides and cover theoretical aspects of the discipline supplemented by practical exemplifications of the main paradigms of study. Also included within the course is a practical laboratory aimed at learning the basics of database management (15 hours).
Attendance is optional but highly recommended.

Assessment Methods

Verification of the knowledge acquired and its understanding and critical integration is by oral interview. The grade is expressed in thirtieths. The evaluation criteria are based on: ability to discursively organize knowledge, critical reasoning skills and quality of exposition, including the use of disciplinary vocabulary. Verification of skills learned during the practical lab will be held during the last lesson and will be aimed at verifying the acquisition of knowledge learned during the lab.
Specifically:
- Students attending the practical lab: The ability to handle and analyze data from an experiment will be assessed.
- Students NOT attending the practical lab: The ability to critically analyze and discuss in a
written the articles under examination.
The final grade corresponds to the weighted average of the oral test and practical lab assessment.
