Course Objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

understand and manipulate sets and propositional logic;

perform basic arithmetic and algebraic operations;

compute limits and study the continuity of real functions of a real variable;

apply differential calculus and integral calculus;

know and be able to implement the fundamentals of linear algebra;

solve certain types of ordinary differential equations analytically and numerically;

apply basic statistical concepts.

Course Prerequisites

First-degree equations (and inequalities); second-degree equations (and inequalities)

Teaching Methods

Lectures and instructor-led exercises in class.

Assessment Methods

A written exam and an oral exam.

Texts

Bramanti, Confortola, Salsa, Matematica per le scienze, Zanichelli. Specific lecture notes (in english) will be available.

The course will cover the following theoretical topics, complemented by their numerical aspects: sets and logic, operations, functions, limits and continuity, differential calculus, integral calculus, elements of linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, and introductory statistics.
