Syllabus

Course Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide the theoretical and practical foundations necessary to conduct a cognitive clinical assessment for diagnostic and rehabilitative purposes.LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The course contributes to the achievement of the educational objectives of the degree program by serving as both a stimulus and guide for advanced learning and in-depth exploration of the clinical assessment of cognitive processes and the best practices guiding research in the field.EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES:By the end of the course, students should be able to:- recognize the main theoretical approaches behind proper assessment, describe the origins and evolution of the most commonly used tools, and outline the most recent trends in assessment;- develop and integrate knowledge about cognitive deficits and formulate new analytical perspectives on each impaired cognitive process;- interpret clinical and experimental protocols used for the assessment of cognitive deficits;- clearly and unambiguously communicate knowledge about deficits, appropriately using the technical language of cognitive psychopathology;- independently explore topics of interest in greater depth.

Course Prerequisites

The proposed program will allow students without prior disciplinary knowledge to achieve the indicated learning objectives. There are therefore no prerequisites, although supplementary readings may be recommended.

Teaching Methods

The course is delivered in person and involves the integrated use of various teaching methods, selected in accordance with the expected learning outcomes. Specifically, the teaching activities are structured as follows: - Classroom lectures aimed at delivering theoretical content, organizing key concepts, and acquiring disciplinary language; - Practical exercises involving the administration, scoring, and interpretation of results related to the main tools for test-based assessment, useful for understanding the practical implications of the instruments analyzed and for developing interpretation skills and critical thinking; - Optional activities (e.g., workshops, project work, field experiences), if planned, will be announced at the beginning of the course or during the semester. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended, as active participation in the various teaching activities significantly enhances the achievement of the course’s learning objectives.

Assessment Methods

Learning assessment is carried out through a written test consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions, each with four answer options, only one of which is correct. The maximum duration of the test is 30 minutes. The questions cover the entire course program. The assessment is graded on a scale of thirty. The final score is determined based on the number of correct answers. Each correct answer awards 1 point, and the final grade is the sum of the points obtained. The passing threshold is set at 18/30. Incorrect or unanswered questions are not penalized. The test is structured to distinguish different levels of competence, in line with the expected learning outcomes. For attending students, partial in-progress tests or early exam sessions may be scheduled during the semester. Further information will be provided during the lectures.
