Syllabus

Course Objectives


Understand the development of sexuality across the life span (childhood, adolescence, adulthood, aging).
Critically analyze the psychological, affective, identity-related, and social components of sexuality.
Gain familiarity with key theoretical and clinical models of sexuality from a biopsychosocial perspective.
Recognize sexual disorders according to main diagnostic systems (DSM-5, ICD-11), distinguishing between variation, discomfort, and pathology.
Explore the role of sexuality in interpersonal relationships and identity construction.
Address with competence and sensitivity topics related to gender identity, sexual orientation, and sexual diversity.
Apply theoretical knowledge to case analysis and to the development of psychological or psychoeducational interventions.
Promote a vision of sexuality as an integral part of psychological and relational well-being, in accordance with ethical and deontological principles.

Course Prerequisites


Basic knowledge acquired during bachelor courses, in particular psychobiology and clinical psychology.


Teaching Methods


The topics indicated in the program will be addressed through lectures, with the help of videos for specific topics. Discussion in class about the topics covered is welcome and encouraged.


Assessment Methods


The final exam will be held orally and will assess the student’s knowledge of the course content, the ability to apply theoretical models, the critical evaluation of concepts, and communication skills.
30 e lode (cum laude):Excellent and thorough understanding of all course topics. The student shows outstanding critical thinking, the ability to integrate theoretical knowledge with clinical reasoning, and uses precise and professional language.
30–27:Very good to excellent preparation. The student demonstrates a solid grasp of course content, the ability to apply concepts effectively, and expresses themselves clearly and appropriately, with some critical insights.
26-23:Good preparation with some minor gaps. The student understands the core concepts but may show limited depth or occasional imprecision in application or terminology.
22-20:Sufficient knowledge of the main course topics, but with evident gaps. Limited ability to connect or apply concepts; the exposition may lack clarity and coherence.
19-18:The student meets the minimum requirements to pass. Basic understanding of the essential topics, with significant limitations in clarity, precision, and integration
