Course Objectives


The course contributes to the achievement of the educational objectives of the degree program in Psychology of Well-being and Performance, by providing students with the tools to understand and critically engage with the main theories on the promotion of well-being and performance across the lifespan.Specifically, students are expected to acquire:

a theoretical foundation in emotional and affective development;
the ability to critically address issues related to the course content and to effectively communicate their reflections on these topics.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

Knowledge and Understanding:


Acquire a comprehensive framework for understanding emotional and affective functioning across the lifespan, including protective and risk factors, and the role of individual and environmental variables.
Understand the main theoretical and assessment approaches aimed at explaining and promoting emotional and affective well-being.


Applied Knowledge and Understanding:


Develop the ability to assess emotional and affective functioning through the application of tools for evaluating emotional competence and attachment.
Gain practical experience with tools for diagnosis and intervention in cases of emotional and affective disorders.


Judgement Skills:


Acquire the ability to compare and critically evaluate different theoretical perspectives on emotional and affective development.


Communication Skills:


Be able to present acquired knowledge through the discussion of scientific literature and oral presentations.


Learning Skills:


Develop reflective thinking on course topics and meta-reflection on one’s own skills and learning processes.
Understand theories related to tools for assessing emotional development in different contexts; theories on the ontogenesis of emotional processes; and theories related to intervention and training activities for different types of target audiences.

Course Prerequisites


Basic knowledge of developmental psychology

Teaching Methods


The course includes both lectures and practical activities conducted in the classroom.During the course, group work and oral presentations are planned to foster the development of transversal skills such as collaboration, independent judgment, and communication abilities.Seminars will also be held, including sessions with external lecturers or field experts, aimed at exploring specific topics or case studies in greater depth.
Attendance is not mandatory but strongly recommended, as active participation in the various learning activities significantly contributes to achieving the educational objectives of the course.

Assessment Methods


The exam consists of an oral test aimed at assessing the student’s level of learning, conceptual mastery, language proficiency, and ability to interpret and analyze.The exam lasts approximately 20 minutes.The evaluation is based on a scale from 0 to 30 (with honors, lode, possibly awarded). A score between 18 and 23 indicates sufficient learning, 23 to 28 indicates good learning, 28 to 30 indicates excellent learning, and "with honors" (lode) is awarded for outstanding analytical and critical reasoning skills related to the course topics.
Attending students may take the exam in groups by organizing the presentation, discussion, and analysis of a scientific article selected from a list provided by the instructor.For attending students, early exam sessions (pre-appelli) may be offered during the semester.
