Syllabus

Course Objectives


The course proposes to provide theoretical and methodological knowledge for the representation of places at different scales through the use of instrumental techniques aimed at the realisation of topographic surveys with total station, GNSS, digital levels in the field of construction, civil and environmental engineering; furthermore, the course proposes to provide knowledge for the management of geospatial data in a GIS environment and the updating of cadastral acts in the Land and Buildings Cadastre according to the standards and laws procedures.


Course Prerequisites


Knowledge of the basics of mathematics, geometry and drawing.


Teaching Methods


lectures, guided discussions, and individual in-depth activities

Assessment Methods


Oral examination of the topics covered in the lecture, including the elaboration and discussion of a case study.

To pass the examination the student must demonstrate, also through the elaboration and discussion of the case study, that he/she is familiar with the theoretical and technical foundations of the discipline and the methods of analysis and tools for topographic, cartographic and GIS surveying.

Contents


The course content covers the acquisition, restitution, analysis and management of data of a metric or thematic nature relating to the Earth's surface, or portions thereof, including the urban environment, infrastructure and architectural heritage, identified by their spatial location and qualified by the accuracy of the survey. In particular, it addresses the following topics:

- Definitions of reference surfaces;

- The representation of the ellipsoid on the plane and cartographic information system;

GNSS;

- The formation process of digital cartography and modern acquisition systems;

- GIS (Geographic Information System);

- Elements of theoretical topography, planimetric and altimetric surveys;

- Processing of measurements;

- The Italian Cadastre.
