Contents

The course, through elements of historical grammar and dialectology, will aim to deepen knowledge of the ancient Greek language in relation to the different chronological periods and the various poetic and literary genres. An initial 10-hour module will be dedicated to the fundamental characteristics of the Aeolic dialect. It will then focus on the Greek Epigrams preserved on the Colossus of Memnon in Thebes of Egypt, with particular attention to those of Julia Balbilla (Epigr. 28-31 Bernand) and of other female voices (Damo, Vibia Sabina, etc.), exploring their linguistic choices and historical context.
