Syllabus

Course Objectives

1. Knowledge and understanding. The course aims to provide students with the tools to interpret the fundamental economic-territorial processes that direct the development of contemporary society and their geographical-temporal trajectories. The geo-economic reading of some contemporary and less recent phenomena will increase the student's understanding, taking into account the activities of the plurality of actors that operate in the territory with particular regard to the different sectors of the economy and the different nature of the operators. 2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding. The student will be put in a position to interpret the phenomena that assume relevance on the territorial level and the insertion of companies in regional, national and international networks. Therefore, the student will acquire the methodological and cognitive tools to understand the fundamental territorial processes that affect contemporary society. A society dominated by pluralistic and often divergent dynamics and by antagonisms that have undermined the paradigms and certainties of a world that until a few decades ago lived in the illusion of being governed by clear and predictable rules. 3. Autonomy of judgment. Through the knowledge acquired through the study of the teaching, the student will be able to evaluate the main determinants, problems and interests of companies in the complex areas of environmental quality and sustainable development; of the paradigmatic transition from the Fordist system to flexible industry; of industrial localization and territorial competitiveness; of the tertiary sector, trade and organization of economic space on a global and local scale; of urbanization and disurbanization; of the circulation of people, goods and information. Students will acquire their own ability to make judgments thanks to the understanding of the fundamental points of reference in the explanation of economic-territorial processes and regional development. 4. Communication skills. The course will make the student capable of transferring the knowledge acquired. In this sense, the student must, at the end of the course, be able to communicate, through the geo-economic reading of the topics under study, the paradigmatic foundations of the improvement of the quality of the environment and sustainable development, of the transition towards the development processes that affect the post-industrial and post-modern society. 5. Learning ability. the student will be put in a position to learn not only the knowledge relating to the subject in question but will also be able to acquire the knowledge relating to the study of other teachings of territorial sciences and the knowledge to address the problems of the reference territory of tourism companies.
