Contents

The growing openness that globalization has generated in the geopolitical, economic and cultural fields has decisively influenced the development of contemporary tourism, disproportionately expanding its range of action, and has made tourism one of the main economic sectors worldwide, with the highest rate of development and the greatest reactivity to economic crises. In their very close intertwining, globalization and international tourism are therefore able to trigger a process (virtuous or vicious, depending on the case and point of view) that feeds and strengthens itself. The module will analyze the different definitions of tourism, its economic and territorial role, the fundamental criteria that define the tourist, the product, the destination and tourist competitiveness, the factors and tools for analyzing tourist supply and demand, tourism and its spatialization, the world tourist regions with a focus on the Italian tourist region.
