Syllabus

Course Objectives

The course aims to deepen the study of a specific integrated business information management tool, namely SAP's ERP system, and to analyze how AI impacts accounting systems and accounting professions.
In particular, these educational objectives can be associated with the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge and understanding – The course aims to provide students with knowledge and skills related to SAP, particularly its accounting modules. These knowledge and skills are acquired through participation in lectures, seminars, laboratory activities, as well as guided and independent individual study.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding – During the course, students are encouraged to use interaction and collaboration tools, including remote tools (such as the FAD platform), to foster the ability to actively engage with SAP-related topics. The ability to apply knowledge and understanding is demonstrated through students’ critical reflection on the content of the texts proposed for individual study; it is encouraged by classroom teaching activities; and it is supported through the case study of the SAP ERP system (a world-leading company in the field of business management systems).

Course Prerequisites

The student must have a basic knowledge of business administration, and financial and management accounting. No training obligations are requested in advance.

Teaching Methods

Classroom lessons and the use of an e-learning platform (https://fad.unich.it) for the shearing of teaching materials, e-mail, messages, news, and communications related to the content of the Course and the exam.

Assessment Methods

Knowledge and understanding – The assessment of learning effectiveness is carried out through a written exam at the end of the course. Specifically, students who attended the lectures are given written questions (open-ended) covering all the teaching units included in the syllabus and discussed during lectures (one question per unit). Interaction with students is encouraged throughout the lessons to monitor their progress in terms of acquired knowledge and skills, also through the use of the FAD platform. The written exam is graded on a scale of thirty. The grade is recorded only for students who achieve at least a passing mark.
During the regular exam sessions, the same written exam is followed by an oral exam, aimed at assessing the students’ ability (including those who did not attend the course) to discuss the topics covered in the course and studied through the textbooks and the teaching materials provided by the lecturer on the FAD platform. Both the written and oral exams are graded out of thirty. Access to the oral exam during regular sessions is granted only to those who have passed the written exam with a grade of at least 18/30.
The final grade, also out of thirty, takes into account the evaluations of both the written and oral exams. The oral exam serves to refine the final grade by assessing the students' ability to engage effectively with the topics covered and to discuss in detail aspects that were not adequately explored — and therefore not fully evaluated — in the written test.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding – During the course, students' ability to apply theoretical concepts is assessed through critical discussions of scientific articles or case studies from the business and consulting world.
