Dal campo al museo. Per una storia delle collezioni antropologiche, etnografiche e fotografiche della Nuova Guinea Britannica di Lamberto Loria

The deeds of men, intrepid travellers in inhospitable lands, are often at the core
of explorations. But what about the paths, no less rugged, of the objects followed
from their abduction from the field to the museums that are going to house them?
The author tried to reconstruct the history of the ethnographic, anthropological and
photographic collections made by Lamberto Loria in his two Papuan stays through
the letters, the diaries and the archival materials remained. A story that starts from
the forests and rivers of British New Guinea to pass through sales and exchanges
between the museums of Genoa, Rome, Florence and Modena, sealed and forgotten
trunks, donations and much more; in order to prove that the paths of these collections are no less adventurous than those of their maker.
