Abstract:
Although the surgical approach is the cornerstone of gastric cancer treatment, multimodal treatment strategies including radiation therapy (RT) and/or chemotherapy (CT) may improve clinical outcomes. In this context, this chapter describes the possible role of radiation treatment for gastric cancer in both preoperative and postoperative settings. This role will be investigated for the clinical scenarios of the gastroesophageal junction and the stomach, starting from the anatomy and covering the impact of different radiotherapy techniques and prescription volumes with particular focus on nodal drainage according to what has been reported in the literature and with reference to the risk of recurrence.
