Open Questions on Stress in Arabic: Some Sociophonological Interpretations

The paper provides a brief overview of the stress systems in some varieties of Arabic and recommends some diachronic reflections involving also connections between Aramaic and Arabic, on the base of a broader research project on the history of the typological division between Eastern and North African Arabic dialects.
