Abstract:
Opening essay in a publication that contains material produced during the “Italian Spring” in Tokyo, an event promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Institute of Culture, with the aim of showcasing the excellence of culture and made in Italy to Japan. Alberto Clementi, appointed to ensure the architectural domain, has set up a confrontation between the cultures of the landscape in Japan and Italy, with reference to systems of government, the way of appreciating the presence of the landscape in architectural design and in the didactic training of architects. The issues produced in that occasion concerning a meeting with administrators, a live contest between three major Japanese architects and as many Italians and an annual seminar in design between Japanese and Italian schools of architecture on the “Landscape Sensitive Design”.
The essay describe the whole program, referring to critical strategies of the landscape in Italy, presenting a budget on recent innovations, and advancing a proposal for three priority strategies for the future.
