Curriculum Vitae
Prof. Giovanna Vessia graduated in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bari in 1997 with a score of 110/110 cum laude, with a thesis entitled “Propagation and shielding of Rayleigh waves using a finite element model.”
In February 2001, she obtained her PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Marche (Ancona), with highest honours, defending a dissertation entitled “A numerical model for analysing the dynamic response of earth structures and finite soil domains using a stochastic approach.”
She has been an Associate Professor at the “G. d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara since 1 April 2024, in the disciplinary scientific sector of Applied Geology (GEO/05 – GEOS‑03/B), and is affiliated with the Department of Engineering and Geology (INGEO).
She has over twenty years of research experience and is the author of more than 100 publications in international and national journals and conference proceedings on topics including Seismic Microzonation, laboratory and in‑situ investigation of the Mechanical Behaviour of Soils and Rocks, and the development of Reliable Subsoil Models for Civil Engineering applications.
She teaches the courses Applied Geology and Hydrogeological Risk within the Degree Programme in Construction Engineering.
Since 2025, she has served as Scientific Coordinator of the High Performance Computing for Disaster Resilience (HPC4DR) Consortium.
She serves ad Associate Editor at the following scientific journals: Studia Geotechnica et Mechanica and Engineering Geology (from 2024 to 2026).
