FERRO MARIA CHIARA

Maria Chiara Ferro is an associate professor of Slavic Studies at the Gabriele d’Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara, where she teaches Russian and translation from Russian into Italian on first- and second-cycle degree programmes. She graduated in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University of Florence and obtained her PhD in Slavic Studies from La Sapienza University of Rome. She has undertaken study and research visits to Moscow and St Petersburg. She has taught at the University of Naples; she has been a visiting professor at the University of Szeged (Hungary) and the University of Tallinn (Estonia). She is a member of the Italian Association of Slavists (AIS), the Italian Association for the Study of Sainthood, Cults and Hagiography (AISSCA), and the Italian Association of Russianists (AIR). She is the author of a scholarly monograph, two specialist textbooks, numerous essays in various languages published in national and international academic journals, and several translations (from Church Slavonic and Russian), and has edited five miscellaneous volumes. She has presented papers at some sixty national and international conferences, both in Italy and abroad (Russia, France, Belarus, Hungary and Lithuania). Her main academic interests include the study of the works of Maximus the Greek; the synchronic, diachronic and translational analysis of the Church Slavonic intellectual lexicon; the analysis of East Slavic literary production from the 12th to the 17th centuries; and issues relating to the teaching of Russian to Italian speakers.
