Course Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide students with a solid theoretical, methodological, and applied understanding of the main topics and practices of human resource management required of HR professionals in contemporary organizations. This objective will be pursued through the analysis of the key current challenges in people management, with particular attention to the impact of digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence, in light of the most recent theoretical and empirical developments in the field. The course will enable participants to develop analytical skills, critical thinking, and practical competencies to understand, evaluate, and design innovative people management practices within complex and evolving organizational contexts.

Course Prerequisites

No prerequisites are required; however, having completed the Management and Business Organization courses provides a solid foundation that can facilitate the approach to the subject.

Teaching Methods

The course involves three lessons per week, each lasting two hours, and comprises participatory lessons, discussions, individual and group exercises, scientific readings conducted with critical evaluation techniques, problem-solving on national and international company case studies, and T-group activities. Students will also undertake a group project work, devoted to the analysis of the latest developments in People Management, which will be presented and discussed in class. Finally, classroom testimonials will be given by entrepreneurs and public and private managers, who take a systemic approach to the topics of organization, human resource management, strategy and management. Attendance is strongly recommended, particularly for the company testimonial and project work sessions, which constitute learning experiences that cannot be replicated through individual study.

Assessment Methods

Students who have attended at least 75% of the course will be considered "attending students". For attending students, intermediate learning assessments are provided. More precisely, the verification of the student's preparation will take place in two moments: a) presentation of the project work results; b) final written and/or oral assessment test. The score obtained with the group project work will be added, in absolute value, to the result of the final oral exam. Non-attending students will be evaluated exclusively on the basis of the final oral exam. The evaluation of the oral interview will take into account the relevance of the answers to the questions asked, the quality of the contents, the ability to make connections with other topics covered by the programme, the ability to provide examples, the command of technical language and the overall expressive ability of the student.
Students with disabilities, Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) or other special educational needs may benefit from individualised arrangements during the exam, in compliance with current legislation and with the provisions of the University's Student Services Charter (https://www.unich.it/sites/default/files/2024-02/carta_dei_servizi_0.pdf), subject to prior agreement with the course teacher. To request compensatory and dispensatory measures, students must apply to the CON_TE_STO Service by following the procedure indicated in the Student Services Charter.
Students are invited to contact the teacher during the lessons, or in any case well in advance of the exam date, in order to find out about the exam arrangements and the measures that are accepted.
For guidance and referral to the various services offered by the University, students may contact the Department's Referring Professor: Prof. Maria Cristina Verrocchio, mc.verrocchio@unich.it
