Course Objectives

The objective of the course of Pharmaceutical Analysis 2 is to provide students with the basis for the recognition and purification of substances of pharmaceutical interest, according to the current Official Pharmacopoeia, through the analysis of the chemical-physical characteristics, chemical reactions and methods instrumental.
At the end of the course the student will have developed:
- the ability to read a structural formula in a pharmaceutical analytical key;
- the ability to apply classical and / or instrumental chemical methods to the separation, purification and characterization of substances of pharmaceutical interest;
- awareness of behavioral standards in chemical laboratories.

Course Prerequisites

In order to attend the course of Pharmaceutical Analysis 2 it is necessary to have passed the examination of of Pharmaceutical Analysis 1. Furthermore, the student must be aware of the basics of general and organic chemistry.

Teaching Methods

The course consists of 60 hours of lectures and 40 hours of practical exercises in the laboratory. The course uses the e-learning platform: https://elearning.unich.it/enrol/index.php?id=292

Assessment Methods

The verification of learning will be carried out through an oral test concerning the whole theoretical and practical program, in which the outcome of two unknown laboratory tests will be evaluated, and with the help of IR and HNMR spectra of substances of pharmaceutical interest.

In order to obtain the signature of attendance, the student must have attended at least 70% of the lectures and 90% of the laboratory exercises.
The reception is guaranteed on Monday from 11.00 to 12.00 and every day by appointment requested by mail.
