Course Objectives


The module, in compliance with the provisions of Article No. 3 of the Academic Regulations concerning "Specific Training Objectives and Expected Competencies," provides students with the necessary tools to:
Develop ethically responsible behavior through the recognition of the values that guide the nursing profession and the ethical problems related to care.
Develop analytical skills and ethical reasoning for effective decision-making.Expected Learning OutcomesKnowledge and Understanding
Upon completion of the module, the student will know and understand the legal, bioethical, and deontological principles that characterize the nurse's professional autonomy and responsibility. They will possess the knowledge to develop critical capacity concerning the main bioethical issues in nursing and basic skills for the rational management of ethical problems encountered in concrete clinical practice situations.Applying Knowledge and Understanding
Upon completion of the module, the student will be able to:
Implement ethical and deontologically correct behaviors, also in relation to aspects of humanization of care and the rules regulating nursing practice.
Promote the protection of human rights within a multicultural perspective, respecting the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of each individual as a human being.Making Judgements
The student will be able to:
Decide, plan, and implement effective, safe interventions, consistent with scientific evidence and legal and ethical responsibilities, in response to the care needs of the individual or community, using appropriate tools.
Utilize critical thinking for understanding the phenomena that characterize the care reality and for ethical and bioethical reflection.Communication Skills
The student will be able to:
Adapt communication according to the context and in respect of the cultural, ethnic, and value differences of the assisted persons.
Interact positively with team members and participate proactively in decision-making and work processes.Learning Skills
The student will be skilled in:

Evaluating their own training needs and implementing effective learning and self-learning strategies and methods.
Integrating and enriching their knowledge and skills through the sharing of information and reflections within the work team.

General concepts of Ethics, Bioethics, and Morality: Definition of the general concepts of Ethics, Bioethics, and Morality.
Ethical issues related to the beginning of life: Ethical issues related to the beginning of life (abortion and medically assisted procreation).
Conscientious objection and conscience clause: Conscientious objection and conscience clause.
Issues related to the end of life: Ethical issues related to the end of life (accompanying ethics, hospice and palliative care, euthanasia, and therapeutic obstinacy/futile treatment)
Ethical problems related to: Ethical problems related to: Restraint: restraint (or physical/chemical constraint); Pharmacological experimentation: pharmacological experimentation (or drug testing); Multiethnic assistance: multiethnic assistance (or care for diverse ethnic groups); Organ donation and transplantation: organ donation and transplantation; Advance Directives (or Living Wills): Advance Directives (DAT - Disposizioni Anticipate di Trattamento).
