Course Objectives

Training objectives
The teaching contributes to the realization of the educational objectives of the STAR05 degree course by aiming to make the professional figure of the archivist capable of dealing with philological rigor with the edition of the various types of archive texts (in modern Italian as well as in ancient), enhancing its use both in a documentary key and as a source for of linguistic and historical-literary studies.

Knowledge
At the end of the course, students must be able to correctly edit an archive document in the ancient and modern varieties of the Italian language.

Autonomy of judgement
Students will have to acquire sufficient skills to identify and put into practice the editorial methodologies most suited to the typological specificities of the texts.

Communication skills
Students must be able to explain circumstances and editorial problems in appropriate terms and clearly to specialist and non-specialist interlocutors, in order to be able to implement profitable interdisciplinary synergies with scholars belonging to other fields of study.

Teacher up front lessons and seminar activities

Assessment Methods

The final assessment consists of an oral exam on the entire syllabus. The aim is to assess the students’ skills and particularly their understanding of the issues discussed during the course, the appropriate knowledge of the bibliography in the course programme, the correct command of the specific language as well as critical and methodological abilities. The grading scale ranges from 1 to 30 with honours (cum laude): 1-17 fail, 18-21 sufficient, 22-24 fair, 25-27 good, 28-29 very good, 30-30 with honours (cum laude) excellent.

1. Chapters relating to "unitestimonial edition", "diplomatic edition", "interpretative edition" taken from an Italian Philology manual chosen by the student among:
- Stussi
- Bausi
- Tellini / Brozzi
- Bentivogli / Florimbii / Vecchi Galli;
2. Examples of editions of different types of archival documents, with specific bibliography provided by the teacher.
