Course Objectives


The course contributes to achieving the educational objectives of the Degree Program in Philology, Linguistics, and Literary Traditions, particularly along the following lines: Knowledge and Understanding In-depth knowledge of the main features of the Italian language (as outlined in the learning objectives of the Degree Program); understanding of the main types of written texts and their characteristics in modern Italian; ability to navigate the debate on the continuity or discontinuity of Italian language structures over the centuries. Ability to Apply Knowledge and Understanding Ability to examine a text and describe its phonological, morphological, syntactic, and lexical traits; ability to recognize the features of a text (both written and spoken) in relation to its type; ability to use specialized reference tools (grammars, dictionaries, repertoires) for linguistic analysis; ability to collect first-hand linguistic data and organize them for in-depth analysis (as per the learning objectives of the Degree Program). Independent Judgment Ability to independently evaluate the accuracy and consistency of a linguistic analysis based on available data and the research methods used; ability to assess the communicative adequacy of a text in relation to its context and purpose (as defined in the Degree Program’s objectives). Communication Skills Ability to express learned content with full command of both written and spoken language, for communication in both academic and general contexts (as outlined in the Degree Program’s objectives). Learning Skills Full command of research and analytical methodologies in the field of linguistics, for access to higher education pathways such as PhD programs or master's degrees, as well as for teacher training, and potential employment in publishing houses, public and private research and cultural institutions, and academic or cultural foundations (in line with the Degree Program’s objectives).

Course Prerequisites


Knowledge acquired within the framework of the bachelor’s degree courses in the L‑FIL‑LET/12 sector (Italian Linguistics).

Teaching Methods


Lectures, PowerPoint presentations, seminars.

Assessment Methods


The final assessment consists of an oral exam on the course content. The evaluation will consider knowledge of the course materials and bibliography, the quality of oral expression, and critical and methodological skills. The grading scale ranges from 1 to 30 with honors, as follows: 1–17 insufficient, 18–21 sufficient, 22–24 fair, 25–27 good, 28–29 very good, 30–30 with honors excellent.

Non-attending students will study the second volume in its entirety and will add the following text: Debora de Fazio e Pierluigi Ortolano, La lingua dei meme, Roma, Carocci, 2023.

Contents


Educating in linguistics, educating in the didactics of the Italian language,educating in communication. The course aims to provide elements and topics related to the didactics of the Italian language and to deepen the discourse between “language” and “gender” through the study of Fabiana Fusco's book.
