Syllabus

Course Objectives


The course aims at providing students with a thorough understanding of the morphology of the integumentary system and its functions. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

understand the elements of cytology, histology, and anatomy of the skin and skin annexes;
Have notions related to the processes of skin growth, regeneration and aging

Course Prerequisites


Basic knowledge of eukaryotic cells and tissues.


Teaching Methods


Teaching is conducted in a blended mode, 50% in-person and 50% online, combining TEL-DE (teaching delivery in person) and TEL-DI (interactive teaching) activities.

Assessment Methods


The assessment of learning will involve an oral final examination, to be taken at one of the scheduled appointments.
The final grade will be awarded according to the following scale:

18-22/30: sufficient knowledge but with gaps;
23-25/30: fair knowledge, clear exposition;
26-28/30: good mastery of content;
29-30/30: excellent knowledge, ability to connect and contextualize;
30 cum laude: correct answers to all questions.

Teaching provides elements of cytology, histology, and human anatomy for understanding the interactions existing in the skin between epithelial, connective, and nervous tissues, with emphasis on the macroscopic and microscopic anatomy of the skin and skin annexes and their morphological changes related to growth, regeneration, and aging.
The following will be addressed:

morphological characteristics of the tissues comprising the skin and skin adnexa
morphological and functional description of the integumentary apparatus
vascularization and innervation of the integumentary system;
hormonal regulation;
growth, regeneration, aging, and skin barrier permeability;
sensory functions
