Syllabus

Course Objectives


The primary objective of the course is to equip students with methods and statistical tools for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of biomedical data. Given the degree course to which it is directed, the descriptive aspect of the Discipline will be privileged, even if there are problems related to the uncertainty of measures, data and information and the probabilistic evaluation of hypotheses.

Course Prerequisites

The proposed program will also allow students who have not previously matured
Disciplinary knowledge to achieve the training objectives indicated. There are therefore no prerequisites, but we recommend a knowledge of the notions of mathematics present in all high school programs.

Teaching Methods


The course is structured in 20 hours of frontal teaching. After the theoretical part will be proposed by the teacher of exercises that allow to verify the practical application of the topics covered.

Assessment Methods


The students' preparation will be checked by a written examination consisting of multiple-choice questions and exercises to check the practical application of the topics covered. The total points (30) will be divided between questions on the task. There is no oral test. The duration of the test is 45 minutes. The teaching methodology and verification procedures will be presented by the Teacher.

Contents


The course aims to provide basic knowledge of biostatistics for a correct methodological approach. It is the first step in a healthcare professional’s knowledge to both produce and evaluate scientific evidence from field research​​​​​​​. At the end of the course, the student should have learned to use the main tools for study planning and basic statistical analysis on data and to interpret in a conscious and critical way the results of a statistical analysis.
