Course Objectives


Knowledge and Understanding: Students acquire specific economic and geographical skills, enabling them to understand the dynamics of tourism markets and tourism-related businesses, and their impact on the local area. Teaching is designed to develop the knowledge that constitutes an essential element of knowledge. Applying Knowledge and Understanding: Students will be able to understand and apply tourism conceptual models and specific tourism operational realities in the fields of programming, planning, and regional management. Furthermore, students will be able to use analytical and project design tools in the field to promote the development of tourism products and itineraries, including with the support of specific technological tools.

Course Prerequisites


Knowledge of the Tourism Geography modules is a prerequisite for this module.
Knowledge of the first module on tourism models is essential.

Teaching Methods


Student assessment involves an oral exam in the form of a discussion, starting with a question related to the topics covered and encouraging logical connections with other topics and concrete examples. Students must demonstrate their ability to interpret phenomena that are relevant at the territorial level and in relation to regional, national, and international networks, and their ability to assess the main determinants, issues, and the deployment of stakeholders' interests in the diverse and complex areas of territorial policy.

Assessment Methods


The assessment of skills will include a final oral exam that will focus on the topics covered during the course and indicated in the syllabus. Students who intend to develop an in-depth thesis will be given the opportunity to present the main findings of the case study developed during an in-person lecture.

Conservation policies, conservation of historical and cultural heritage, conservation of natural and social contexts, territorial organization and development policies, traditional policies, systemic policies, international policies: from the myth of development to reality, development strategies and their limits, sustainable tourism and the tourism "optimum," sustainable tourism: from concept to practice, towards a tourism "optimum."
Tourist vs. Traveler:
Tourists are often seen as consumers primarily seeking their own pleasure, while travelers are considered more interested in discovery and immersion in local culture.
Travel Motivations:
Tourists choose a destination for a variety of reasons, such as the desire for culture, relaxation, adventure, or entertainment.
Effects of Tourism:
Tourism can have positive and negative impacts on the environment and local communities, affecting natural resources, pollution, and the social fabric.
Understanding tourist behavior patterns is essential for companies and tourism destinations to adapt their offerings and meet the ever-changing needs of travelers.
