Syllabus

Course Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide the key concepts of space and territory required for the student's economics curriculum, based on a critical geographical approach. This approach is structured in the classical interpretation of functional and strategic modeling, which addresses the spatial dimension, and in territorial policies, understood as forms of collective action aimed at participatory solutions to socioeconomic problems related to the territory. To this end, the program will be structured to:- Understand the timeframes, spaces, and evolution of tourism practices.- Analyze the differences between various areas based on the tourism nature of the locations.- Correlate the historical, geographical, economic, and social phenomena related to tourism.- Interpret the different uses and valorization of tourism resources.

Course Prerequisites

Knowledge of the Tourism Geography modules is a prerequisite for this module.

Teaching Methods

Student assessment involves an oral exam in the form of a discussion, starting with a question related to the topics covered and encouraging logical connections with other topics and concrete examples. Students must demonstrate their ability to interpret phenomena that are relevant at the territorial level and in relation to regional, national, and international networks, and their ability to assess the main determinants, issues, and the deployment of stakeholders' interests in the diverse and complex areas of territorial policy.

Assessment Methods

The assessment of skills will include a final oral exam that will focus on the topics covered during the course and indicated in the syllabus. Students who intend to develop an in-depth thesis will be given the opportunity to present the main findings of the case study developed during a face-to-face lecture.
