Texts

The syllabus of the History of Medieval Philosophy course is partially differentiated into a programme for attending students and a programme for non-attending students. Both programmes include the study of a university textbook dedicated to the development of thought from the Late Antiquity to the threshold of the Renaissance. The following texts are recommended for preparation for the related examination (as alternative to one another). Whatever reprint (e.g.: Milano: Rizzoli, 2011). Other university handbooks can be agreed with the teacher. Further notes may be provided by the teacher at class. Attending students will train on the content of the chosen textbook and on what the teacher explains in class. Non-attending students will train exclusively and analytically on what they read in the chosen textbook. They are also advised to recur to the following text: Costantino ESPOSITO - Pasquale PORRO, Filosofia, vol. 1 “Antica e medievale”, Roma-Bari: Laterza, 2009 (or a subsequent reprint), from ch. 7 to the end.
