Course Objectives

In accordance with the Dublin Descriptors, the educational objectives of the course are aimed at providing students with the acquisition of knowledge and terminology specific to functional anatomy applied to preventive and adapted physical activities, useful for understanding the morphology and structure–function relationships of the main body regions involved in movement and posture. In particular, the course aims to develop knowledge of the applied anatomy of the vertebral column in its structural and functional aspects and in its main adaptations to conditions such as aging, obesity, pregnancy, and postural alterations, as well as of the functional anatomy of the shoulder, hip, and knee, with reference to anatomo-functional adaptations, the most common dysfunctions, and their implications in the context of preventive and adapted physical activities [knowledge and understanding].
The achievement of these objectives will enable students to consciously and effectively apply anatomo-functional knowledge within subsequent courses and will provide graduates with an adequate cultural background for professional practice, interaction with other professionals, and the application of the discipline in educational, rehabilitative, preventive, and adapted contexts [applying knowledge and understanding].
At the end of the course, students will possess solid knowledge of functional anatomy useful for addressing subjects in subsequent years and for supporting the proper exercise of the profession. The development of autonomy of judgment and analytical skills will be fostered through classroom discussion of applied examples and practical case studies related to postural and movement assessment [making judgments].
The expected learning outcomes foresee that, at the end of the course, students will be able to appropriately discuss the relationships between anatomical structures and motor and postural functions, apply anatomo-functional knowledge to the assessment of movement and posture, and understand its implications in rehabilitation programs using an evidence-based anatomical approach. Furthermore, students will have acquired adequate communicative and expressive skills in the use of specific anatomical terminology, as well as the competencies necessary for autonomous continuation of studies and orientation toward the professional career opportunities envisaged by the degree program [learning skills].

Course Prerequisites

None

Teaching Methods

The lectures are delivered using electronic devices and a multimedia-equipped classroom.

Assessment Methods

The examination is designed to assess students’ knowledge and competencies regarding the terminology and principles of functional anatomy applied to preventive and adapted physical activities. In particular, the exam will evaluate the understanding of the morphology and structure–function relationships of the main body regions involved in movement and posture, with specific reference to the vertebral column and its adaptations to conditions such as aging, obesity, pregnancy, and postural alterations. Knowledge of the functional anatomy of the shoulder, hip, and knee, the most common anatomo-functional dysfunctions, and their implications in preventive and adapted physical activities will also be assessed.
Examination format: written multiple-choice test
Assessment: 1 point for each correct answer; 0 points for incorrect or unanswered questions.
Time allowed: 30 minutes
The examination format is the same for both attending and non-attending students.

Texts

- Teaching materials provided during the course

- "Trattato di Anatomia Umana" di Anastasi vol1, Edi Ermes

Contents

The course will define the appropriate reference terminology of functional anatomy applied to preventive and adapted physical activities, and will examine the morphology and functional relationships of the main body regions involved in movement and posture. Particular attention will be devoted to the applied anatomy of the vertebral column, analyzed in its structural and functional aspects and in its main adaptations to conditions such as aging, obesity, pregnancy, and postural alterations. The functional anatomy of the shoulder, hip, and knee will also be explored, with reference to anatomo-functional adaptations, the most common dysfunctions, and their implications in the context of preventive and adapted physical activities. Finally, the anatomical and functional principles underlying postural and movement assessment will be addressed, with practical applications to rehabilitation programs using an evidence-based anatomical approach.
