Syllabus

Course Objectives

Knowledge and capacity to understand: at the end of the course, the student will acquire the knowledge of: a) the psycho-social theories and main research trends about the leadership; b) the psycho-social theories and main research trends about the interpersonal, ingroup and intergroups relations; c) the psychosocial mechanisms of disinformation and fake news in the public sphere, in the contest of the digital transformation of news media.

Capacity to apply knowledges and comprehension: the student will acquire the capacity to analyze and understand the phenomena of the leadership in the current time, the interpersonal, ingroup and intergroups relations; the rise and the impact of the disinformation and misinformation in the public sphere.

Independent judgement: the student will analyze independently psycho-social phenomena concerning leadership, the interpersonal, ingroup and intergroups relations, and the processes of disinformation and misinformation in the public sphere.
Communication skills: the student will be able to communicate in a clear and concise way the themes presented during the course.
Learning ability: the student will be able to go deep into the themes presented during the course in an independent way.

Course Prerequisites

Knowledge of theories and research methods in Social Psychology (Contents of “Social Psychology I)

Teaching Methods

Lectures with slide and video; group discussions, and exercises

Assessment Methods

Written exam (closed-ended questions). 32 questions on the three texts in the programme.

Contents

The course topics include the social psychology of the leadership, the relationships with the other and the communication in the public sphere. The course will present: 1) the development of psychological theories of leadership, with particular reference to the dynamics of identity, influence and power; 2) some psycho-social approaches to the study of processes and phenomena concerning the interpersonal, ingroup and intergroups relations; 3) the psychosocial mechanisms underlying the disinformation in the public sphere.
